Couture for a Cause 2010 - Highlights

As Couture for a Cause is approaching it's 3rd successful year, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the 2010 show. My ultimate favorite was a dress supporting Alliance for Aids — Carolina that was constructed of newspaper in beautiful detail.

Couture for A Cause - Highlights from 2010

As Couture for a Cause is coming up on it's 3rd year with success, I wanted to take some time to reflect. The 2010 show had a fantastic turnout as I was able to see first-hand. One design in particular supported Alliance for Aids- Carolina.

Balancing Act

Incorporating balance in the world of fashion may seem at times — contradicting— to say the least. There have always been and there will always be temptations to sway us.
Mad Men's Betty Draper, played by January Jones
I will be the first to admit when something I consider to be an apparel or accessory "must-have" presents itself to me at a price I cannot afford (pretty much anything Louis Vuitton or Marc Jacobs), my first inclination is to take all necessary measures to ensure it is MINE. In the end, however, situations like this (when impulse overrides common sense) never turn out positively.
Stick to your budgets, Fashionistas. Balance and happiness will follow. There is so much you can do with a creative mind!

Sneak Peek: Wendy Bryant Gow's New Blog

In addition to authoring Muse Worthy Style, I have been hard at work creating and writing another blog for Wendy Bryant Gow, a Wardrobe Stylist and International Image Consultant that I have been working closely with (and have loved every second of it) for the last six months or so. Wendy's branding strategy focuses on the professional confidence and success of her clients — representatively, the products and style directions are classic and sophisticated.  I am excited to offer a sneak peak of this brand-spanking-new blog and professional style guide.
The blog should be up and running by the end of May 2011, so check out www.wordpress.com/wendybryantgow in the future for more of this blog post and more!

A very important part of looking good on the outside is feeling good about it on the inside. The importance of a polished, well-groomed look is widely known in our professional lives in order to make and maintain positive impressions that clients and colleagues have come to expect from us. In the summer heat, however, tailored suits are sometimes just Too Hot! So what are we to do if we want to uphold our standards in professional appearances without feeling miserable and uncomfortable in the summer swelter? Here are a few of our favorite ensembles for summer. Continued at www.wordpress.com/wendybryantgow.

Emerging Designer: Charlotte Hess

I feel so fortunate to have witnessed the winner of the 2011 Charleston Fashion Week's Emerging Designer competition, Charlotte Hess, send her line down the runway on Friday night. There was passion and unparalleled talent that went this smoking-hot knitwear line that was evident to the entire crowd as they roared in approval and appreciation.

Highlights from Charleston Fashion Week:

BRIDAL SHOW STYLING
Modern Trousseau
Being a fashion-obsessed individual, I have found plenty of opportunities to see fashion shows over the years. None, however that make me more proud to be a "southern gal" than Charleston Fashion Week. Out of everything I saw, the styling from Modern Trousseau in the Spring Bridal Show that was held Saturday afternoon were my absolute favorite.
Modern Trousseau
According to Charleston Weddings Magazine, "Modern Trousseau and the line's nationally lauded designer —Callie Tein—is known for classic, elegant gowns." I loved the beautiful gowns, but I was totally inspired by the Breakfast at Tiffany's themed styling with the hair twist, bright-red lipstick, large black sunglasses, pearls and opera-length gloves. Some of the models even had little tiaras just like Audrey!

Sweet Style

It seems that Valentine's Day is more often associated with pressure and anxiety caused from unrealistic expectations and unhealthy attachments than what the holiday is supposed to celebrate.  Try a new perspective this year and treat yourself to something sweet. Surround yourself with all the people in your life that are important to you and take time to appreciate friendships. Celebrate the love and support you give and receive with friends and family. Taking care of yourself and loved ones never goes out of style.
sweet and stylish

Sweet Sweater Dresses

How sweet and simple a sweater dress can be!
Sweater dresses are more versatile than you might think. They can be dressed up or down and can be worn most months out of the year. A great sweater dress can also be in style for years to come.
wish list:
The ADAM by Adam Lippes crew neck dress (left) is more sleek and sophisticated, while the Kate Spade (right) is classic and cute for any age. Both are made of fine and lightweight knits that will be comfortable and practical for wear well into spring.

This Alexander McQueen belted sweater dress (above) incorporates an edgy twist to a very refined look.  A draped and belted style is often very flattering as is an asymmetrical hem.
